The following signs are not prohibited by this chapter:

(1) Signs advertising or referring to activity conducted on the premises;

(2) Signs identifying the premises, including numerals and names of the business;

(3) Political campaign signs; provided, that such signs are installed no earlier than 90 days before the election or event to which they apply and are removed no later than seven days after the date of such election or event;

(4) Temporary signs for nonprofit civic campaigns, events, or other noncommercial events;

(5) Temporary or permanent signs for noncommercial (civic organizations, such as all cities and civic clubs, etc.);

(6) Any sign existing in the same location as of the effective date of the ordinance codified in this chapter. Any substantial change to such sign shall make it a new sign, not subject to this exception. Routine maintenance is not a substantial change. [Ord. 504 § 1, 2005; Code 1975 § 6-5.904.]
