Buildings, structures or land may be used only for the following purposes in the “GC” general commercial district:

(1) Permitted Principal Uses. The following principal uses are permitted in the “GC” general commercial district.

(a) Any retail business or service business supplying commodities or performing any service customarily found in the business section of town as the following:

(i) Automotive sales, rental and service within an enclosed building.

(ii) Business services such as banks, insurance, real estate, offices, postal stations, printing.

(iii) Clothing services, such as dressmaking, millinery, shoe repair, furrier and tailors.

(iv) Cleaning establishments such as laundromats, dry cleaning and laundries.

(v) Equipment sales and service such as radio or television shops, business machines, musical instrument shops, sewing machines, plumbing and heating, and electrical fixtures.

(vi) Personal services such as barber shops, beauty salons, reducing salons, photographic studios, theatres, and mortuaries.

(vii) Retail stores such as food markets, bakery, candy store, department stores, drug stores, haberdasheries, books and stationery, newspaper distribution, shoe and apparel shops, camera and photographic supplies, music and record stores, sporting goods, flower shops, dry goods, furniture, household appliances, home furnishings, hardware, hobby, gift, jewelry and variety stores.

(viii) Food service, such as eating and drinking establishments and frozen food lockers.

(ix) Service establishments and wholesale trade conducted completely within an enclosed building.

(x) Recreational establishments such as bowling alleys, billiard halls.

(xi) Hotels, motels.

(xii) Transportation depots, such as a railroad passenger station, bus station.

(xiii) Farm equipment and supplies conducted completely within an enclosed building.

(xiv) Apartments on the Second Story or Higher. Apartments are allowed on the second story or higher. Apartments are not allowed on the main floor or the basement.

(b) Building and uses customarily incidental and accessory to the permitted principal uses.

(c) Living quarters used by watchmen or custodians of the commercially used property.

(2) Special Uses. The following special uses are permitted in the general commercial district “GC” only in accordance with provisions set forth hereinafter:

(a) Lumber yard and building materials open storage.

(b) New farm implement, equipment open air display and storage.

(c) Open air auto sales display and storage.

(d) Utility substation.

(e) Churches.
