Owners of licensed dogs which have been impounded shall be notified that upon payment of impounding costs such dog will be returned. If impounded licensed dogs are not recovered by their owners within seven days after notice, the dogs shall be disposed of in a humane manner as directed by the council.

The city may attempt to contact an animal shelter before disposing of the dog and may dispose of the dog by giving it to an animal shelter.
