The municipal code of the city places the responsibility for the maintenance and repair of public sidewalks on the abutting property owner. The law further places the responsibility on the city to ensure that all public sidewalks within its jurisdiction are kept reasonably safe for pedestrian travel. To fulfill these obligations, the city will systematically inspect all public sidewalks within the city’s jurisdiction and, upon determining that a sidewalk defect exists, will initiate appropriate action to have the sidewalk reconstructed.
